Information about Church Ministries
Below is a list of all the special Ministries that take part in the Liturgies of our Church. Each Minister may specify their Mass preference and time commitment. Assignments are made on a rotating basis and every effort is made to honor individual requests. Training is easy and available on an “as needed” basis.
Altar Servers
This special Ministry is open to both children and adults.
Children of the Parish who are in 4th grade or
higher are encouraged to sign up.
Throughout the year, we hold extensive training sessions and go through
the entire process until they are comfortable assisting the Priest during
There are also opportunities for adults to become Altar Servers. Adult Servers are very much needed for Funeral Services held during the week and school year. Please note that Adult Servers wear their street clothes. If you are interested in this Ministry and would like to be trained, we will arrange a special session.
Greeters
The Church has always placed great emphasis on the virtue of Hospitality. We continue this service to warmly welcome the Parish Community and all visitors arriving to attend the weekend Masses.
The Greeters responsibilities include arriving 15 minutes before assigned Mass, handing out the hymnal books, inviting a family to bring up the gifts.
After Mass, when needed, assist the Ushers in passing out the Sunday bulletins. Before leaving take a brief look to see if any hymnals are left in church. Collect them and return them to the hymnal book case.
Hospitality Ministers can choose their Mass preferences which are made on a rotating basis.
All men, women and young adults are invited to participate.
Eucharistic Minister
The role of the Eucharistic
Minister is to assist in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ
during Worship Services.
A brief training can occur
after any weekend
Ushers
The Usher Ministry is a great
way to serve your fellow Parishioners and guests. This Ministry is available to
all Parishioners, men and women, from high school age and up.
The duties of an Usher include
seating the Congregation, assisting with the collection, facilitating an
orderly procession during the Eucharist, distribution of the Bulletin and set
up and take down of extra chairs when needed.
The Usher is responsible for
any special needs that may arise before or during the
The Usher is also to check
that all Ministers are present and to get substitutes for any position that may
be vacant. These tasks are simple, but
essential in ensuring that everyone feels welcome and comfortable in our
Church.
Music
“Those who sing, pray twice,”

Music Ministry in our Parish
can take many forms. The Cantor leads
the singing at a service and helps the Congregation appreciate their role in a
Liturgical setting. The Choir sings at special
events and major Feasts. Even if you
don’t read music, you can be a member of the Choir. Regular attendance at rehearsals is a
necessity. The Instrumentalist adds
interest to the music at Worship and thus raises the level of solemnity. This skilled Musician should be able to read
and play well in an ensemble setting.
See the Music Director about
serving in the Music Ministry.
Lector / Reader
The Lector/Reader proclaims the Word of God from the Old and
New Testaments at Sunday and Holy Day Masses. This requires a commitment of
approximately one Sunday every other month. There is an initial training
session (and one training/prayer session each year) and Lectors are
asked to take a little time to prepare and read the Scripture before
Books containing all the readings, with explanations as well as some word pronunciations are available for $10.00. Lectors specify their Mass preference and are assigned on a rotating basis.
Sacristans
The Sacristan prepares the Church
for the celebration of the Eucharist by placing all the required vessels, books
and hosts in their assigned positions prior to the start of
To aid the Sacristan, there
is a checklist in the Narthex for pre- and post- duties.
